How To Destroy Angels

"How to Destroy Angels is a musical group featuring Nine Inch Nails front man Trent Reznor, his wife Mariqueen Maandig and Atticus Ross. Rob Sheridan is the group's art director." - HTDA Wiki Entry

Apart from Mariqueen, because I've never heard any material by her prior to this, these are all people whose work I know and enjoy. Although HTDA is very different from NiN, as a package it is something I am already very much enjoying.

They put up a series of short musical vignettes on their website, but didn't take long to follow these up with some full song releases. The first one was The Drowning:

I really like Mariqueen's vocals, and that was the only part of the package I was never going to be sure of. But this is like hearing Nine Inch Nails, with a downtempo focus and a female vocalist. It definitely works for me.

The Drowning was an audio-only release, but they followed that up today with a new song, The Space In Between, accompanied by a video. A lot of Reznor's work has been dark, but this borders on the gothic, at least in tone.

WARNING: The video has a lot of blood in it and is a bit graphic. Possibly don't watch if you're squeamish.

This was directed by a guy named Rupert Sanders and I don't know anything about him, but I certainly do like the clip.

Anyhow, it seems like HTDA are a group I'm really going to be getting in to.
