So I finally got around to seeing "Kill Bill: Vol. 1" the other day. To say that I thought it was completely, fantastically, jaw-droppingly awesome would be an understatement. I loved it for more reasons than one. Sure, the fight sequence in it was excellent - but even before that started, the lengthy steadi-cam shot had me floored. The sucker just kept going and going! Fantastic shot. The audio was fantastic, I paid close attention to the noises and effects. At one point, they took the sound of someone tuning an old short-wave radio, and backmasked (played just before, and rising in volume) it against a sword stab. Whoever thought of doing that is brilliant, I have no doubt. The music, equally, played its part, and I was happy to hear Tarantino's usual unexpected music choices add to the overall effect of the peice. RZA's influence is also heard, noticeably during the main fight sequence.

Anyways. A couple of days after I saw it, I went and watched "Kill Bill: Vol. 2", and I must admit I was a little disappointed, because I was expecting more fighting, and there wasn't any. I think when it comes out on DVD and I get to watch it again, I'll enjoy it more. The two volumes are meant to be watched together as one movie, so in actuality, Kill Bill really does have it all. The second story focuses more on a different style, with more character development. Someone on imdb mentioned it was the western and old horror genres it was styled after, and I'd have to agree with that. Still a good film, just not what I was expecting.

I do have more to hash out, but I'm pretty tired at the moment, so I think I'm gonna head to bed. Night!
