...that is unlocked (or an Optus pre-paid), which I could either borrow or purchase off you for a very low price?

My Nokia 7260 is kinda dying. SMS and alarm tones and now the ringer have all started to work intermittently. Since I use the phone for texting and alarms primarily, this is a bit of a problem (not to mention that if the ringer went on it, it'd be totally useless).

Obviously beggars can't be choosers, but I'm after a phone that is as-good or better than the 7260, especially in terms of memory so it can at least hold all my current contacts. I have an old 3215 I could use, but... yeah. Only if this one dies completely. :P

I only need the phone as a temporary stop-gap until the Sony Ericsson Xperia comes out. :) I think that's sometime around June/July.

Anyone?

Grindhouse - Astor Theatre - 27th March

Melbourne peeps,

The Astor Theatre is screening 'Grindhouse' as it was intended to be shown, as a double-feature, with intermission and scratched treatment. I'm going to be buying tickets for the 7:30pm session on Thursday, 27th March (next week). If anyone else is interested in coming along with us, let me know and I can arrange tickets (not sure if you're able to book them, but I'm going to buy a bulk lot).

I'm pretty excited about this because I was highly disappointed when I heard they were splitting the films up due to the fact the double-billing wasn't making "enough" profit over in the states. I'm a bit of a purist and I like to see things the way they were intended.

For those who don't know anything about Grindhouse, you can find more information on its IMDB page and a more detailed rundown here . The films themselves (by Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino) are schlocky, fun, and have garnered some pretty decent reviews. The trailers during intermission should also be excellent, one done by Rob Zombie (House of 1000 Corpses), another by Edgar Wright (Spaced/Shaun Of The Dead/Hot Fuzz - he's already one of my favourite 'indie' directors) and one by Eli Roth (Cabin Fever).

Because I am supposed to be working and google.com and ask.com have failed me utterly...

... what is that stuff all good movie villains use to knock people out? You know, tip it on a handkerchief, cover people's nose with it stuff.

My new colleague, Jo, was cleaning the white board. She started by using window cleaner, then eucalyptus oil. I said I preferred the smell of the window cleaner, and she jokingly offered to pour some on to a tissue for me so I could sniff it. I wanted to say "How about a tissue full of (insert drug name here) so I can just go to sleep for the next few hours," but I can't for the life of me remember the damn stupid thing's name.

Help, plzkthx.

EDIT: So yeah, it's Chloroform. I just came back to edit the post saying "Don't worry, I remember now," but Ralesk beat me to it. :P Thanks twinbro. ;)

I hate it when people are in such a massive rush to cross at traffic lights that they feel the need to stand in front of me, regardless of how close I am to the edge of the road, even if this means standing ON the road, just so they can be first to start crossing when the little man turns green...

... and then walk as slowly as a geriatric grandmother, which means other people catch up quickly and pass them, which means I cannot overtake them.

I'd scream, but it would just end up hurting my throat. :-/

I've decided that I'm not going to make a massive post about New Year's, primarily because there's no way I can adequately express in words just how fucking awesome it was, and secondarily because they are memories I'm choosing to keep for myself. I'll never need a diary entry to remind me of the last few days.

Thankyou very much to the people who organised it and made it possible, especially our matriarch ;). Thanks to the both of you who got me there and back, I love you both. And thanks to all the people I shared it with, especially those whom I met for the first time and had a blast with, and those whom I got to know better. Fantastic people = fantastic times, and you're all fantastic people. May many more fantastic times lie ahead of us.

Stuntman: Ignition

Supposed to be out on either the 27th, today, or October 1st for PS3. I bounced around the CBD at lunchtime, but no one had it on the shelf.

The 360 version of Stuntman: Ignition is the first game, alledgedly, to use the Live headset as a game mechanic (others, including me, would say gimmick) instead of just for Live online chatter.

I don't think the PS3 version of the game supports this feature, and it maxes out at 1080i as opposed to 360's 1080p.

I think I'm going to skip this title for the PS3 and buy it on the 360... when I own one. The reasons for owning one keep piling up though, so... maybe post-Christmas or something.

While I have actually been getting a bit of work done today, trust me to just REALLY get in to my stride at 5:30pm. There's nothing for it though - when I'm in this mood, in this frame of mind and have this kind of energy, I'd be an idiot to waste it by going home. Woo woo!

Of course, the first hurdle in my work I hit, and I'm probably gonna lose my momentum... but let's see how long I can last. :)

Aww! I've just discovered that my cord jeans ripped just above the knee sometime over the weekend. They've been on the way out for a while, getting pretty thin and stretched, and I've been meaning to replace them for a while... but still. Aww! :(

F**K HDV

The harsh lessons just keep on coming.

On Friday, before I left work, I set an export running. The idea was to convert my current HDV timeline in Final Cut Pro out to an .m2v MPEG2 file ready to be burned off on to SD DVD. I knew this would take a long time, which is why I set it to run over the weekend.

I'm not 100% sure what happened, but it looks like either Final Cut Pro has crashed and stopped sending data to compressor, or it was going much, much, MUCH slower than I'd anticipated. When I got in this morning, it was saying there was 361 hours remaining, and rising. Final Cut showed up as 'Application Not Responding'.

I quickly read up on some other methods of outputting it, and the 'easiest' way seems to be to let FCP do all the transcoding from HDV to DV. I kicked off the output, but when it said it would take 11 hours, I pulled the plug on that one too.

Now I'm going to try exporting HDV straight to tape, and then re-importing the footage as DV. Usually this is time-intensive, but since our current timeline is short, it's not all that bad. It's certainly shorter than 11 hours.

God damn I hate HDV. I've learnt my lesson. No more editing in native HDV. From now on, AIC (Apple Intermediate Codec), DV, or bust. Even Uncompressed 10bit footage handles better than this crap.
